About the tool
The free random color generator for design, CSS, and inspiration
This random color generator hands you a fresh color every time you click — no sign-up and no limits. Each color appears as a large swatch with its HEX, RGB, and HSL values ready to copy, so you can drop it straight into a stylesheet, a design tool, or a mood board. Press the space bar to keep exploring until a shade jumps out at you.
Every color code you need
The same color is shown three ways. HEX is the six-digit code you'll use most often in CSS and design apps. RGBbreaks the color into red, green, and blue channels from 0 to 255. HSLdescribes hue, saturation, and lightness, which makes it easy to nudge a color warmer, softer, or brighter. Click any format to copy it instantly — no manual conversion needed.
Generate a whole palette at once
Switch to palette mode and every click produces five random colors side by side. It's a fast way to discover unexpected combinations for a brand, a poster, a slide deck, or a website theme. Click any swatch to copy its HEX, or copy all five at once and paste them into your design tool to start refining.
Great for developers and designers
Reach for the hex color generator when you need a placeholder color, a random background for testing, or a starting point for a palette. Because every color comes with copy-ready code, it slots neatly into a front-end workflow — grab a HEX for a CSS variable, an RGB for an rgba()value, or an HSL to build a set of tints and shades. Your recent colors are saved on your device so you can revisit a shade you liked.
Instant, private, and free
Everything happens in your browser, so colors generate the moment you click and the tool keeps working offline. When you need a different kind of randomness, the rest of the toolkit is close by — random numbers, a wheel spinner for picking between options, or a random name for your next project.
However you use it, this free color generator is built to be fast and genuinely random. Generate a single color or a full palette, copy the exact code you need, and keep going — as many times as you like, completely free, with nothing stored on our servers.
FAQ
Random color generator FAQ
How does the random color generator work?
Press Generate (or the space bar) and the tool picks a random color and shows it as a large swatch, along with its HEX, RGB, and HSL values. Click any value — or the swatch — to copy it to your clipboard. Everything runs in your browser, so it's instant and works offline.
What's the difference between HEX, RGB, and HSL?
They're three ways to describe the same color. HEX (like #3A7BD5) is the six-digit code used most often in CSS and design tools. RGB lists red, green, and blue values from 0–255. HSL describes hue, saturation, and lightness, which many designers find more intuitive for tweaking a color. This tool gives you all three for every color.
Can I generate a color palette?
Yes. Switch to Palette mode and each generate produces five random colors at once. Click any swatch to copy its HEX value, or use Copy to grab all five at once — a quick way to explore combinations for a design or brand.
How do I copy a color code?
In single mode, click the HEX, RGB, or HSL chip to copy that format, or press Copy for the HEX value. In palette mode, click a swatch to copy its HEX. A small confirmation appears each time a value is copied.
Are the colors truly random?
Yes. Each color is generated by picking random red, green, and blue channel values, so every shade across the full spectrum is possible. Refresh as many times as you like to explore new colors.
Is this tool free and private?
Completely. There's no sign-up, no limits, and no server involved — colors are generated locally in your browser and your recent colors are stored only on your device.
