Get Random Topic ("we", "us", or "the Service") is a free random topic generator available at getrandomtopic.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information is involved when you use the Service and how it is treated. By using Get Random Topic, you agree to the practices described below.
The short version
Get Random Topic runs almost entirely in your browser. We do not require an account, we do not ask for personal information, and we do not send the topics you generate, favorite, or search to any server. There is no back end storing your activity. The one exception is the optional Random Book reader, which fetches public-domain books on demand (see Third-party services) — and even then, those requests are not stored or tied to you.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or contact details unless you choose to email us directly.
- We do not require you to create an account or log in.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties, because we don't collect it.
- The random topics you generate, search, and favorite are never transmitted to us.
Information stored on your device
To make the Service useful, some preferences are saved locally in your browser usinglocal storage. This data never leaves your device and includes:
- Your saved favorites and generation history.
- Your interface preferences, such as light or dark theme.
You can clear this information at any time by clearing your browser's site data for getrandomtopic.com. Doing so will remove your saved favorites, history, and preferences.
Cookies and analytics
The core Service does not rely on tracking cookies. If we introduce privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics in the future to understand overall usage (such as page views), we will update this policy and ensure any such tool does not identify individual users.
Third-party services
Get Random Topic is served through Cloudflare, a hosting and content delivery provider. As part of delivering the page, Cloudflare may process standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type, in line with its own privacy policy. We do not store this data ourselves.
The optional Random Book and Study materials features work with free books and open educational content from third-party libraries: public-domain classics fromProject Gutenberg (via theGutendex API), open textbooks and study guides fromWikibooks, andOpenStax textbooks. When you search for or open an item, the request goes to the relevant service (and, for Project Gutenberg book text, through a lightweight proxy on our Cloudflare infrastructure) so the content can be shown in the in-site reader. These requests are used only to fetch the content you asked for. We do not log, store, or associate them with you, and your reading preferences (font size and theme) are kept only in your browser's local storage.
We use Google Analytics for aggregate, non-identifying usage statistics, and offer an optional language translation feature powered by Google Translate. Translation only runs if you choose a language from the selector; when active, the page text is sent to Google to be translated, in line with Google's privacy policy. You can return to English at any time to turn it off.
Children's privacy
The Service is suitable for general audiences, including students. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
